1. SHAPE

Artistic, amoral, and physically impossible to argue with. The Toreador produce the Masquerade the way weather produces a storm: not deliberately, but at volume.

Their disciplines are Membership and Protege. Their politics are patience. Their contribution to this network has been the oldest and worst idea in the file, which we are about to repeat so you know what to distrust.

2. THE MYTH THEY SPREAD

The claim that the Embrace burns the memory away, leaving a person walking in the sun who has simply forgotten us, was traced to a Toreador salon in Vienna in the 1740s and it has never been true.

It has been repeated for two hundred and eighty years because it is kind. The Toreador are not lying for profit. They are lying for kindness, which on this network is worse, because you cannot file it against them.

3. THE SALON ROUGE

Vienna, 1740s. Our reading is that a house elder took a human she loved and told her a story so she would not have to grieve, and the story spread because it was repeated by everyone who heard it.

No apology has ever been offered. Nobody at the Salon Rouge believes they need to offer one.
