PRAGUE NODE VLA-7 // RECREATIONAL STACK

MINIGAMES

Four terminals were left running when the node's steward stopped answering mail. Nobody has powered them down because powering them down would require entering the room, and the room is behind the laundry. They are, functionally, immortal. We have made peace with this.

HOUSE RULES AT THE RECREATION STACK

Every game on this page was written by a second-generation programmer who has not been outside since the Hayes embargo. She signed them all NUL and refused to say what that stood for. The Second Inquisition recovered three of her notebooks from a Vienna relay in March. None of them contain this code. That is either excellent news or a very precise lie.

Scores are not transmitted anywhere. There is nowhere to transmit them to. The stack keeps a local high-water mark in a file called sewer.log that nobody has been able to locate, which we choose to read as a metaphor.

  • WIRE CRACKER — brute-force a four-digit salt. Slower than it should be, on purpose.
  • CIPHER LOCK — a Caesar shift. The plaintext is a discipline you already know.
  • WARDEN'S GLYPHS — match the sequence. It changes every time you blink.
  • PACKET RIVER — route the traffic. It will not stay routed.
DECRYPTION VERIFIED Complete CIPHER LOCK. A verification mark is written into your session and appears on your sidebar on every subsequent page of this node. It proves nothing to anyone. You will still want it.

No blood is consumed by any of these games. Several of our guests have found this disappointing.

FOR THE RECORD

The high-water marks currently standing on the stack, as last read by RATKING from the floor above the hardware store:

CIPHER LOCK, row two. Shift four exists. She left it behind on purpose and the rest of the network has spent four years failing to find it. If you solve it, the network would very much like to know.
