NETWORK STATUS
SchreckNET is a mesh, not a hierarchy. No node knows more than two of its neighbours, and every third relay rotates its address on the Sabbat. What follows is the most complete census the Clan has been able to take since Vienna.
Four spikes, evenly spaced and never at a full hour. That is a schedule, not a coincidence. Somebody is polling the mirror on the Sabbat and we do not know who is reading the answers.
| NODE | CITY | STATE | CUSTODIAN | LAST HANDSHAKE | NOTE |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VLA-7 | PRAGUE | ACTIVE | ratking | 00:04:11 | source mirror. holds the only clean archive of Vienna. |

| CRL-4 | CARACAS | QUIET | — | 11:02:00 | down to a trickle. custodial silence or surveillance, undetermined. |
| LON-9 | LONDON | ACTIVE | — | 00:04:09 | firmly Anarch. warns about the mesh constantly. is right about most of it. |

| BOM-11 | BOMBAY | ACTIVE | — | 00:04:06 | Assamite node. locks the archive for hours at a time, without explanation. |
| VIE-0 | VIENNA | FALLEN | — | never again | burned. relay presumed physical. do not attempt recovery. |

- Broadcast a null request. Not your handle. A string with the shape of a request and no content in it. Any node that answers is either ours or wants us to think it is.
- Wait exactly long enough to be wrong. Two seconds is standard. Answering faster than two seconds is how the Inquisition traces a relay.
- Rotate the source header. Present the address of a node two hops away, which is a node that does not exist. If the reply comes back signed by that address, someone has been reading the mesh for months.
- Never authenticate first. A relay that asks for your credentials before it has shown you a valid signature is a Hunter relay. Close the session and burn the address.
- Read the last packet, not the first. Our relays always append four bytes of padding to the final block. Second Inquisition relays are tidy. Tidy is wrong.
- Assume the room is listening, then talk normally. The act of being careful is louder than the thing you were careful about.
