PERSONAL HISTORY
Hana Sato was a prodigy in theoretical physics at Tokyo University when Void Engineers recruited her in 1995. Her breakthrough paper "Correspondence Topology in Non-Euclidean Manifolds" solved a 40-year-old problem in dimensional navigation. She was fast-tracked to shipboard duty.
Sato serves under Captain Volkov on the DSV-7 "HORIZON" as Chief Navigator. She's the only one who can plot courses through the "anomalous nodes" Volkov discovered in the asteroid belt—nodes that correspond to Virtual Adept sigil activity. Her navigation algorithms treat sigils as gravitational anomalies in Correspondence space.
She hears things in the static between stars. Whispers in languages that don't exist. Volkov says it's Paradox accumulation. Sato thinks it's the Digital Web's native inhabitants trying to communicate. She's started recording the whispers in a shielded log.
