PERSONAL HISTORY
Captain Yuri Volkov has spent 14 of the last 17 years in deep space. A cosmonaut recruited from the Soviet space program in 1989, he was among the first Void Engineers to breach the Gauntlet at Lagrange Point L2. His ship, the DSV-7 "HORIZON," maps the correspondence routes between Earth and the Deep Umbra.
In 1996, Volkov's crew encountered an entity in the Deep Umbra that "followed them back." The entity—never fully classified—manipulated probability fields around the ship. Three crew members vanished. Volkov's report was classified Level 5. He refuses to discuss it, but his navigation logs show a 0.3% course deviation that persists to this day.
Volkov believes the Digital Web extends beyond Earth orbit—that the Correspondence routes used by mages are merely local expressions of a universal network. He's currently mapping "anomalous nodes" in the asteroid belt that correspond to Virtual Adept sigil activity.
