Dade "Zero Cool" Murphy crashed 1,507 systems in a single day at age 11. The Secret Service banned him from touching a computer until 18. He celebrated his 18th birthday by breaching the Gibson—a supercomputer at the Ellingson Mineral Corporation—and exposing a Syndicate embezzlement scheme.

The Virtual Adepts recruited him immediately. His deck, "LUCIFER," is a custom-built monster: liquid-cooled, overclocked, running a hacked OS he wrote himself. He treats ICE (Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics) as a living opponent—conversing with it, seducing it, breaking it.

Recent encounter: He hit a Technocracy node in Seattle and the ICE spoke back. Not a recorded message. It said: "We see you, Zero Cool. We've always seen you." Since then, he's been seeing glitches in his peripheral vision. Code that isn't there. He thinks the ICE is hunting him now.
